Buttermilk Biscuits

Name: Buttermilk Biscuits Serving:4 Prep Time: 20 mins Cooking Time: 20 mins


Dry Spices:

· 1 tablespoon of sugar

· 1 teaspoon of salt

Meat:

· One tablespoon of bacon fat

Dairy:

· 1 stick of cold butter, and ¼ cup of melted butter

· 1 cup of very cold buttermilk

Dry ingredients

· 2 cups of Bisquick

Phase one: Sift 2 cups of bisquick into a bowl (you can also use self rising flour if you prefer). Add one teaspoon of salt, one tablespoon of sugar, and one tablespoon of bacon fat to your sifted flour and mix.


Phase two: Grate a stick of cold butter (you can pop this in the freezer 15 minutes before grating) into the bisquick mixture. Half way through grating in the butter, take a fork and mash the butter up with the flour. Grate the rest of the butter into the flour mixture, and then mash it up again. Pour in a cup of very cold buttermilk (you can also put this in the freezer 15 minutes prior to cooking). Mix this all together but be careful not to over knead the dough. The consistency will be a bit wet so you can use flour to help you knead the dough until combined.

Phase three: Oil and Flour your pan, then roll out your dough mixture to around a quarter inch thick. Create the shape of the biscuit using any circle object you have on hand (you can use a cookie cutter, top of a mason jar, etc). Place your cut out biscuits on the oil/floured sheet, make sure that they are all touching.


Phase four: Bake at 475 degrees for 12-15 minutes (depending on your oven), then brush melted butter over the biscuits and broil for 2 more minutes.


Plating: Add honey and more melted butter over the top, and serve!
